A Cologne theatre story that continues
From Cologne’s theatrical roots to the mirror tent at the zoo: the story of a company that creates its own shows.

The roots
At the former venue on Platenstraße, theatre was performed for decades. Cinema, neighbourhood theatre, international perspectives and independent stage work shaped the place.
In 2017, Bettina Montazem, Lea Johanna Montazem and Rosa Halina Dahm took over Urania and developed it into an independent, family-run house.

The mirror tent becomes the stage
When the former venue could no longer be used, Urania moved its shows into a mirror tent. What first seemed like a quick new solution proved, artistically, to be a logical step.
The round architecture, the proximity to the audience and the handcrafted atmosphere suit the shows as if both had been made for one another.

A new chapter at the zoo
At the location on Riehler Straße 173, Urania Spiegelpalast Köln gains a visible place in Cologne. Here, artistic work, the growing supporters’ association, gastronomy and new opportunities for events come together. The story of the house is therefore not finished. It is just beginning to grow larger.
